Tasmanian Fresh Fruits to Taiwan

Taiwanese consumers love Tasmanian cherries so much that they are the “must-have” gift for their friends and family during the Chinese New Year. Continued strong support from the Fruit Growers Association Tasmania and Tasmania State Government is the key element to keep the trade momentum, and making their annual pilgrimage to the key markets like Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea recently.

Cooperation goes as far back as 20 years ago with the first Taiwanese fruit company investing in the cherry farm with fruit being sent directly from Tasmania. It helped the cherry export industry and established its market position in Taiwan.

Austrade Taipei office organised the meetings for the recent trade mission with the local government officials and key importers, as well as a networking dinner of over 30 guests.  The dinner menu served was carefully designed to include oysters, wagyu beef, King Island cheese, wine and bottled natural rain water all from Tasmania.
