Austrade congratulates 2011 Export Award Winners

Australia's most innovative and successful exporters were honoured for their achievements at the 49th Australian Export Awards in December. The Awards recognised 12 companies for their exporting success in agribusiness, arts and entertainment, education and training, minerals and energy, services and manufacturing.

Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) moves forward

Australia is among nine Asia-Pacific nations to endorse the broad outline of a new Free Trade Agreement across the Pacific — the Trans-Pacific Partnership. Country leaders announced the agreement in conjunction with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit in November, 2011. Negotiations are expected to conclude in July 2012.

APEC to cuts tariffs on Green Goods

Members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) bloc – including Australia – have agreed to reduce tariffs and eliminate non-tariff barriers on environmental goods and services that directly and positively contribute to the region's green growth and sustainable development objectives.

Australian innovation to go global

The Australian Government has announced a final tranche of funding as part of the Australian Government's Innovation Investment Fund. Up to $100 million will be invested to help innovative Australian companies compete in global markets.

Australian water management on show in Mexico

Australian irrigation and water management companies are set to make an impact in Mexico as the country looks for sustainable ways to meets its growing demand for quality water. Most recently, Australia's irrigation technology was on show in the southern Mexican State of Veracruz.

Indonesia ratifies ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement 

On 20 November 2011, the Indonesia Government ratified the ASEAN-Australia-New Zealand Free Trade Agreement (AANZFTA). The FTA will enter into force on 10 January 2012, eliminating tariffs for 92 per cent of Australian exports to Indonesia and significantly reducing tariffs for a further 5 per cent.

Austrade has published the first edition of its quarterly newsletter, Asia Auto Update. The newsletter provides information about key developments, opportunities and events in Asia's automotive sector. This first edition explores the rapid growth of the auto industry in the ASEAN region.

In 2010-11, Austrade provided export services to around 13,000 Australian businesses, administered more than 4000 export grants, and assisted in the attraction of 77 investment projects to Australia. Austrade's annual report for 2010-11 is now available to download in PDF.
