Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner, United Kingdom and Ireland

David Camerlengo is Senior Trade & Investment Commissioner to United Kingdom and Ireland, at the Australian Trade & Investment Commission (Austrade), leading Austrade’s strategy across these markets including helping companies benefit from the Australia–UK Free Trade Agreement and attracting strategic foreign direct investment to Australia. 

David’s immediate prior role at Austrade was Head of Technology and Manufacturing CoE, leading Austrade’s global strategy across the technology and manufacturing sectors.

Prior to joining Austrade, David spent 16 years in the USA including as President, North America of global manufacturer, EGR Group.  During his eleven-year tenure with EGR, David helped to build and scale the USA operations to employ over 120 people and be a substantial contributor to the parent company.

Following this, David was appointed Trade & Investment Commissioner-North America for the Queensland Government of Australia, leading the state’s trade and investment strategy across the region. David supported hundreds of Australian companies to expand in North America and attracted productive foreign direct investment (FDI) to Queensland. 

David also has experience in the technology sector with technology startup Unearthed, working to deliver the open-innovation agenda for large mining and energy enterprise customers (Origin Energy, Newcrest Mining, OzMinerals, BHP). 

David has also been a mentor and advisor at Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ), supporting local councils to develop their trade and investment agenda. 

David has been a non-executive director on boards of not-for-profit organisations including Open Worldwide Innovation Network (OWIN), Australian-American Chamber of Commerce (AACC) and Life Sciences Queensland (LSQ).

David has lived and worked extensively in the USA, Australia and now the United Kingdom.  He holds a Masters in Technology Commercialisation from University of Texas-Austin and a Bachelor of Engineering from Queensland University of Technology.
