Disability and recruitment

Austrade takes part in the APS RecruitAbility scheme to support employment of people with disability.

We are committed to creating inclusive recruitment practices that recognise and value the skills, experience and perspectives of people with disability. We actively work to remove barriers, provide workplace adjustments and ensure our processes are accessible, respectful and fair. Our commitment to inclusive recruitment reflects our broader focus on diversity and inclusion, and supports our aim to attract and retain a diverse and high-performing workforce.

We want to ensure our recruitment processes are accessible to all candidates. If you require an adjustment at any stage of the recruitment process, including submitting an application, participating in interviews or undertaking assessments, please let us know. We will work with you to provide appropriate support to enable full and fair participation.

RecruitAbility scheme

The APS RecruitAbility scheme only includes our roles based in Australia. It does not cover our overseas roles.

Eligibility

Under the scheme, applicants will automatically progress in the assessment process if they:

  • identify as having disability
  • opt into the scheme
  • meet the minimum job requirements.

The Australian Public Service Commission defines ‘disability’ for employment-related purposes.

Selection process

If you opt into the scheme, you may skip steps in the assessment process. This gives you the pathway to show your skills and experience for the role.

We follow a merit-based selection process to find the most suitable candidate for the role.
