Assessment on the value of EMDG

Summary

This document analyses the performance of businesses that received Export Market Development Grants (EMDG).

The Office of the Chief Economist at Austrade produced the analysis.

The analysis uses data from:

• EMDG administration
• the Australian Bureau of Statistics’ Business Longitudinal Analysis Data Environment (BLADE).

This is a resource for:

• Australian small to medium businesses considering exporting
• EMDG grantees.

Key findings

The analysis shows:

• larger firms are more likely to achieve success in exporting than smaller firms
• EMDG merchandise exporters have better outcomes than other exporters
• EMDG recipients have better turnover growth and are more likely to continue exporting.
