About this grant

The Australian Government has agreed to grant up to $1 million to Sydney WorldPride 2023. This will provide one-off support to the Sydney Harbour Bridge Pride March in 2023.

This grant aligns with the Australian Government’s work on building markets and attracting visitors. It relates to priorities under The Reimagining the Visitor Economy (THRIVE) 2030 strategy.

Program summary 

This grant contributes to the following guiding principles of THRIVE:

  • Putting the visitor first
  • Heading for sustainable growth
  • Expanding visitor markets
  • Ensuring visitor assets meet expectationsBuilding markets and attracting visitors.

The intended outcomes of the grant are to:

  • increase international visitor travel including intention to travel to Australia
  • showcase Australia as a safe, inclusive and diverse destination for visitors, particularly for the LGBTQI+ community
  • support event accessibility and environmental sustainability.

Grant recipient  

This grant opportunity is an ad hoc one-off grant.

Austrade administers this grant. WorldPride 2023 delivers this grant in line with policy outcomes and the Commonwealth Grant Rules and Guidelines.

Research

WorldPride 2023 will undertake research as part of this grant. The research will help to evaluate:

  • whether international visitors intend to visit Australia
  • domestic and international attendance at the Pride March.
