Business events

The $36 billion business events sector significantly contributes to the tourism industry and plays a vital role in supporting the connection of businesses through tradeshows and conferences; unlocking widespread collaboration and generating jobs and opportunities across metropolitan and regional communities. They are also a significant platform to attract foreign investment and talent flows to Australia.

Business Events Grants program

On 11 March 2021, the Australian Government announced an extension to the Business Events Grant program.

The program closed on 30 March 2021 but may re-open in April 2021, or until all funding has been allocated.

On 11 September 2020, the Australian Government announced the $50 million Business Events Grants program. As part of the $1 billion Relief and Recovery Fund, the program provides assistance to industry sectors, regions and communities disproportionately affected by the economic impacts of COVID-19.

The program aims to boost confidence within the business events sector which saw nearly 100 per cent of business events in 2020 cancelled or postponed due to COVID-19. The Government’s priority is to support the recovery of the business events sector and the supply chain that relies on in-person event - including caterers, accommodation, transport providers and event hosting companies.

The Business Events Grants program will complement Tourism Australia’s business events programs.
