Trade Resilience Service

Practical intelligence, insights and advice to support Australian businesses navigate increased supply chain volatility.

The Trade Resilience Service (TRS) delivers practical intelligence, insights and advice to support Australian businesses navigate increased supply chain volatility.

Ongoing developments in the Middle East are having a significant impact on international trade. This affects freight availability and costs across a broad range of export markets.

Australian exporters are facing reduced capacity, higher costs, insurance uncertainty and limited options to redirect perishable exports to alternative markets.

Supporting exporters

The TRS will operate for 12 months from April 2026, supporting exporters in navigating these additional challenges.

Austrade will work with government partners, supply chain specialists and peak industry bodies to equip exporters with key logistics and freight information and market intelligence to help them:

  • continue to supply their products to international customers
  • maintain export reliant jobs
  • identify shipping routes for essential imported inputs
  • inform operational decision making, and strategic planning.

The TRS will operate alongside the Accessing New Markets Initiative (ANMI), which is helping Australian businesses build resilience through growing and diversifying their exports.

How the TRS is delivered

The TRS is delivered through the Go Global Toolkit, plus Middle East updates and insights, free information and resources for businesses at every stage of the export journey.

FAQs

The Trade Resilience Service (TRS) is a temporary Government initiative to support trade exposed businesses navigate increased supply chain volatility driven by ongoing conflict in the Middle East.

Operating for 12 months from April 2026, the TRS will deliver practical intelligence, insights and advice to support Australian businesses through Austrade’s Go Global Toolkit.

Ongoing conflict in the Middle East is imposing costs and delays on Australian exporters, with businesses facing higher freight costs, insurance uncertainty and limited options to redirect perishable exports to alternative markets. These freight and logistics pressures are not confined to the Middle East; they are affecting freight availability and costs across a broad range of export markets.

With one in four Australian jobs related to trade, and nearly a third of Australia’s economic output supported by trade, maintaining exports is essential to Australia’s economic growth and resilience.

The TRS will help exporters continue to supply their products to international markets and maintain export-reliant jobs by providing key logistics, freight and market intelligence to help inform business decision making.

The service is primarily aimed at Small to Medium Enterprises (SMEs), as they generally have fewer resources available to navigate supply chain disruptions. However, intelligence, insights and advice from the Trade Resilience Service are accessible to all Australian businesses via the Go Global Toolkit.

Leveraging both government and industry expertise, the TRS will:

  • Work with freight and logistics experts to provide intelligence, insights and advice on topics including shipping availability, prices and insurance coverage via Austrade’s Go Global Toolkit.
  • Support SMEs who may otherwise face consequential operating decisions without access to expert advice.
  • Liaise with major commodity exporters whose understanding of market pricing, routing and freight risk is critical for building system wide resilience.
  • Share information across government and with the recently established Trade Diversification Network (TDN) to deepen collaboration and identify current opportunities and long-term strategies to support exporters.
