Austrade social media terms of use

Read our social media rules and terms of use.

Austrade uses a number of social media services to complement our traditional public outreach activities.

These services include Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, LINE, WeChat, Weibo, X, YouTube and social bookmarking and sharing buttons on our websites. The number and nature of our social media presences will change over time.

Regardless of whether they are listed on the Austrade social media page, the following disclaimer applies to all our social media presences in use at any given time:

  • Social media services may occasionally be unavailable and Austrade accepts no responsibility for lack of response due to network downtime.
  • Austrade reserves the right to close any of its social media presences, for any reason, without notice.

We don't endorse user comments

Austrade does not necessarily endorse, support, sanction, encourage, verify or agree with the comments, opinions or statements posted by users and/or members on Austrade social media presences. Any information or material placed online by users, including advice and opinions, is the view and responsibility of those users and does not necessarily represent the views of Austrade.

Austrade endeavours to keep all social media presences up to date. However Austrade's website should be regarded as the source of up-to-date information about Australian trade and investment issues.

Journalists seeking an official Austrade spokesperson view on any issue should contact our media centre

Disclaimer and limitation of liability

Please note that neither Austrade nor its affiliates nor any member and/or participant in Austrade social media presences provides professional advice of any kind and that use of such advice or any other information is solely at your own risk and without Austrade’s liability of any kind.

Comment moderation

While Austrade does not wish to stifle conversation on social media sites, users must not post or upload any comments or links to Austrade managed social media presences that are unlawful, or may defame, discriminate, offend, interfere with privacy or infringe copyright or other intellectual property rights. Austrade reserves the right to moderate comments and may remove any comments that, in Austrade’s opinion, are inappropriate.

Moderation policy

Comments and messages on Austrade's social media presences are ‘post-moderated’. This means that comments will be published automatically and reviewed by Austrade after publication. While Austrade reviews public comments on a regular basis, there may be times when inappropriate or offensive posts or comments that do not meet the terms of use appear before they can be removed.

Where inappropriate material is identified it will be removed from public view, however it will be retained in the Austrade system. Comments that violate the terms of use will be removed or not published. We will not edit comments.

Austrade does not undertake to inform users when their comments and posts are moderated, however we will warn and take appropriate action to suspend and expel users who regularly and consistently submit inappropriate content. Repeat offenders may be blocked from operating within Austrade's social media presences indefinitely.

Links

Links to external websites and other third-party social media presences from an Austrade social media account are provided as a convenience to users. These sites and associated content are not under the control of Austrade or its overseas posts.

The inclusion of any link or repost does not imply endorsement of that website, content, social media presence, service or person by Austrade. Austrade is not responsible for the content or reliability of links, or for any loss or inconvenience arising from their use.

Social bookmarking and sharing

Austrade uses social bookmarking and sharing buttons on a number of its websites. These buttons enable visitors to easily share content on Austrade’s websites through social media platforms or bookmark content through social bookmarking services.

Austrade may ‘like’, ‘react’ and ‘share’ third-party posts from its official social media accounts. Please note that this does not imply endorsement of the content and the content provider by Austrade in any way.

Please do not participate in any Austrade social media presence if you don't agree with the terms of use.
