29 March 2022 – Budget supports Australia’s trade, investment and visitor economy to build a stronger future

As part of the 2022-23 Budget, the Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment announced the Government’s commitment of $187.1 million to lay the foundations for a world-class cross-border trade system for Australia, including by delivering a ‘tell us once’ trade system.

Head of the Simplified Trade System Implementation Taskforce Mr Randall Brugeaud with members of the Executive team contributed to a two-day Regulatory Reform: Supporting business investment and growth conference.

Hosted by the Hon Ben Morton MP, Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and Cabinet, and presented by the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet and IPAA ACT, the conference brought together industry leaders, academics, State and Commonwealth regulators and policy makers who discussed regulatory reform, its challenges and opportunities and the vital role it can play in driving economic growth.

The Day 1 – Masterclass and Day 2 – Key Note & Panel sessions highlighted the complexity of our current cross-border trade environment and opportunities RegTech provides to simplify how government agencies work together as regulators, and importantly, the experience of traders in their dealings with government.

16 December 2021 – Further funding for STS reforms to help Australian businesses

The Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, Minister for Agriculture and Northern Australia, Minister for Home Affairs and Minister Assisting the Prime Minister and Cabinet, Minister for the Public Service, Special Minister of State jointly announced a package of measures to make cross-border trade easier for Australian business.

This package commits an additional $137 million over four years to improve user experience for businesses, simplify regulatory processes, better align processes across government agencies, and enhance data collection and sharing.

24 November 2021 – Simplified Trade System Town Hall

Head of the Simplified Trade System Implementation Taskforce (Taskforce), Mr Randall Brugeaud, hosted a Town Hall to update the community, particularly businesses, on the Taskforce’s work and how you can get involved.

The Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment, provided opening remarks on his leadership role of the Simplified Trade System reform agenda.

Mr Paul Little AO, Simplified Trade System Industry Advisory Council (Council) Chair, explained the Council’s role in supporting the Taskforce’s business engagement, ensuring Australian business needs are at the centre of the new trade system.
