Information for Visitors
The Australian Government provides extensive information to help visitors to Australia and Australians travelling overseas.
Government websites
The following government websites provide information to assist travellers to Australia in planning their trip, arriving in Australia, during their stay, and departing.
Australia.com is a multilingual site for visitors to Australia, provided by Australia's tourism agency, Tourism Australia. This site is a portal to a wealth of information on visas, getting to Australia, travelling within Australia, and useful tips.
Australia.gov.au is the Australian Government entry point to information for inbound travellers (international visitors to Australia), outbound travellers (Australian residents travelling overseas) and domestic travellers (travelling within Australia).
Quarantine information is available through the Department of Agriculture website who manage the quarantine controls at our borders, minimising the risk of exotic pests and diseases entering the country. If you are entering Australia to holiday, study or live permanently, or if you are an Australia resident planning an overseas trip it is a good idea to know what can't be brought into Australia.
Carrying cash? It’s ok but you must report it. Find out more and get a report form at www.austrac.gov.au/travellers
The Therapeutic Goods Administration, Australia’s medicines regulator, provides consumer awareness information on buying medicines in Australia.
China visitor visa factsheets
The Department of Immigration and Border Protection in collaboration with Austrade and Tourism Australia has developed a series of bilingual promotional flyers to ensure stakeholders and potential visitors have access to helpful and accurate information on our tourist visa arrangements in China. There are two brochures targeting different audiences:
Consumer information
While visitors are in Australia, they are covered by Australia's consumer protection laws which require all businesses to treat consumers fairly.
The Australian Government provides information on consumer rights to ensure that consumers are aware of their rights when purchasing products or services during their visit to Australia.
Travellers who believe they have been treated unfairly by a business while in Australia can lodge a complaint with a consumer protection agency in Australia.
