Australia and Southeast Asia strengthen clinical trials collaboration at CTFA 2026

Australian firms showcased their clinical trial capabilities and strengthened regional partnerships at CTFA 2026 in Singapore.

Austrade supported a delegation of Australian contract research organisations (CROs), contract development and manufacturing organisations (CDMOs), clinical trial sites and biotechnology companies to engage with stakeholders from Singapore and across Southeast Asia.

Clinical Trials Festival Asia 2026 (CTFA 2026) highlighted the growing demand for cross-border collaboration in clinical research, as sponsors seek to accelerate development timelines and improve patient outcomes.

Australia’s participation forms part of the broader Australian Clinical Trials Initiative (ACTI), a $750 million investment to promote Australia’s world-class clinical trial capabilities and strengthen global engagement with industry partners.

Complementary strengths across regions

Australia offers a globally competitive environment for clinical trials. Efficient regulatory pathways and ethics approvals enable rapid trial start-up, supported by world-class research infrastructure, experienced investigators and diverse patient populations.

In parallel, Southeast Asia presents strong growth opportunities, with large and diverse populations, expanding healthcare systems and increasing participation in global clinical research.

Together, these strengths create opportunities for sponsors, researchers and industry partners to design and deliver trials more efficiently across multiple markets.

Expanding partnerships in Southeast Asia

Engagements at CTFA 2026 focused on building partnerships with hospitals, universities, research institutions and regulatory bodies across the region.

These collaborations are expected to support clinical trial delivery at scale, while maintaining high standards of quality and compliance.

Austrade continues to work with Australian organisations to identify opportunities, connect with regional partners and support market entry and expansion across Southeast Asia.

Supporting global clinical development

Australia’s clinical trials sector is recognised for its ability to deliver high-quality data with speed and reliability. Combined with attractive research and development incentives, this positions Australia as a preferred destination for early-phase and advanced clinical trials.

As global demand for efficient and diverse trial environments grows, partnerships between Australia and Southeast Asia are expected to play an increasingly important role in the future of clinical development.
