Australian companies showcased advanced technologies that will improve the efficiency and sustainability of Indonesia’s mining industry at Mining Indonesia, the country’s premier mining event.
Sixteen companies presented cutting-edge mining equipment, technology and services (METS) at the Australia Pavilion, highlighting how sustainable practices and resource-efficient technologies and solutions can reduce environmental impact while driving productivity.
These innovations support the continued development of one of Indonesia’s key industries, ensuring long-term economic growth that aligns with global sustainability goals.
This is the second time Australia has participated at the largest mining exhibition in Indonesia. This year, with the support of Investment New South Wales and Trade and Investment Queensland, the specially designed semi-open booths encouraged dynamic conversations with potential customers and partners.
The event provided a platform for Australian companies to diversify their exports and growth globally. Over the course of 3 days, the pavilion recorded over 70 business-matching meetings.
One exhibitor was GACWheels, a company that produces eco-friendly, superior-quality tyres for the resources sector.
‘It gave us an opportunity to be here, despite not knowing how to exhibit here in this country,’ says COO Darryl Crowder. ‘We are not established here yet, so it’s really about getting some introductions and using the Austrade team to help us better understand how to do business in this country.’
Beyond the pavilion, the visiting Australian companies connected with Indonesia’s key industry players at the Australian networking reception. With support from the governments of New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia, the event created further opportunities to build connections and gain deeper insights into the needs of Indonesia’s mining industries, from both business and government perspectives.
The Australia Pavilion was a hub for Australian METS companies to showcase their products, meet potential customers and connect with the Indonesian mining sector.
Indonesia’s mining sector is a cornerstone of the nation’s growth, powered by its vast and diverse natural resources including nickel, coal and copper. This opens opportunities to provide solutions that improve efficiency, safety and sustainability while supporting the sector’s long-term growth and sustainability goals.
‘We are seeing an increasing number of Australian METS companies doing business and setting up offices in Indonesia,’ says Stephen Skulley, Austrade’s Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner.
‘Australian companies offering sustainable mining solutions are finding attractive opportunities to support local customers and partners with solutions to achieve operating efficiency, modern automation, innovative delivery, and reduced carbon footprints.’
‘We understand that Indonesia has the largest mining base in all of Southeast Asia,’ adds Rahul Sharma from Hawk Measurement Systems, a provider of level and flow measurement solutions to maximise efficiency and costs.
‘It presents very exciting opportunities for us to expand our business – and at the same time provide Indonesian miners with extremely reliable and high-quality technology for their process control.’
The Australian METS sector has been at the forefront of developing and implementing innovative practices and cutting-edge technologies for mining operations around the world.
Driven by a pioneering spirit and a commitment to excellence, Australian METS companies have become renowned for solving the most difficult industry challenges in the harshest global mining environments, from large-scale open-pit copper mines in the Atacama Desert of Chile to complex underground gold projects in the subzero temperatures of Northern Canada.
‘It’s terrific to be at Mining Indonesia 2025 and witness the depth and breadth of Australia’s world-leading mining equipment and solutions,’ says Jane Caforio, Co-lead of Austrade’s National Green Economy team.
‘Australian companies are focused on delivering quality, sustainable and efficient outcomes for customers. Operating in remote and rugged environments has made sustainability central to Australia’s mining practices, and that commitment is embedded in the solutions we bring to our partnerships in Indonesia.’
