Austrade Landing Pad in Shanghai delivers inaugural bootcamp for game developers

The Landing Pad team in Shanghai recently delivered its first bootcamp curated for Australian video game developers. The China gaming market recently overtook the United States to become the world's most valuable, generating RMB 203.6 billion (approximately AUD$40 billion) annually. It is also exhibiting strong growth at 17.7% annually with 583 million gamers.

Participants, from eleven of Australia's top game developers undertook a range of intensive workshops covering business model localisation, pitching to Chinese investors and partners, intellectual property strategies and regional opportunities.

Delegates also put what they learnt into practice, pitching their games to key players in the industry including Tencent Games, Disney China, Sohu Changyou and China Telecom. These sessions provided valuable commercial opportunities and insights for the delegates.

For the Shanghai Landing Pad team it was also the first time we had a baby as a client, welcoming a delightful ten month old baby who served as our unofficial mascot, keeping the group motivated and upbeat. It was fitting that, at the end of the bootcamp, baby Theodora also received a graduation certificate from Austrade in testament for her excellent contribution to the week.
