Minister for Trade, Tourism and Investment welcomes San Francisco Landing Pad’s newest 2018 cohort

At a reception on 30 January 2018, Trade, Tourism and Investment Minister Steven Ciobo welcomed members of the newest San Francisco Landing Pad cohort to their new home at WeWork in the heart of the city’s Financial District. The reception included over 80 founders, investors, service providers and community allies celebrating the arriving scaleups.

WeWork’s campuses across the globe, as well as access to industry, academia, government and capital, is supplemented by Austrade’s global network.

The Minister introduced the San Francisco Landing Pad’s sixth cohort and first sector-specific cohort, devoted to Australian cyber security startups and scaleups.

The five cyber security companies—BankVault, Cog Systems, Security Colony, Randtronics and SIEMonster—began a 90-day residency that will culminate in their participation in the Australian Cyber Security Mission to the US, which will include the 2018 RSA Conference, the world’s largest cyber security conference.

Four top-notch Australian companies working in HR, education, e-commerce and agriculture technologies also joined the Landing Pad in January. You can read more about these scaleups—AgDNA, CAVEWIRE, Verrency and VideoMyJob—on the Landing Pad website.

Following the Minister’s remarks, AustCyber CEO Craig Davies moderated a panel of founders and innovators from Australian cyber security firms that have successfully navigated the transition to Silicon Valley.

Casey Ellis, Founder of BugCrowd, Hamish Hawthorn, COO at UpGuard, Chris Roberts, Vice President, Americas at Dtex Systems, and Jane Melia, Vice President, Business Development at QuintessenceLabs shared lessons learned while scaling their businesses in the US.
It was an injection of Aussie energy into the Bay Area and a fantastic way to set the tone for the coming three months and beyond.
