Sheila commenced in January 2019 as Senior Trade and Investment
Commissioner for Italy and Israel, and Consul, Milan. She manages the Milan
post which has responsibility for investment, education and trade for Italy
and Israel, as well as the Tel Aviv Landing Pad. The Milan post has
consular responsibility for Northern Italy.
Sheila’s previous role was as Manager of Austrade’s Services and
Technology team based in Melbourne. From late 2012 to October 2016, Sheila
worked as Consul and Trade Commissioner in São Paulo, Brazil. She also
worked in Austrade’s Canberra office in the Ministerial, Economic, and
International Engagement Branch and worked in Austrade’s Singapore office
from 2009 to 2010.
Prior to joining Austrade, Sheila was Senior Adviser Government Relations
for CSIRO. Originally from the Netherlands, she has worked in a variety of
roles in international science programmes in Europe, including the
Netherlands and Sweden, prior to migrating to Australia. She speaks
multiple European languages, including Italian, and holds a Master of
Science degree from the Australian National University and a Master of Arts
degree from Utrecht University in the Netherlands.
