Emma McDonald currently heads up the Austrade presence in the United Kingdom, on a short-term posting as Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner to the UK, Ireland and the Nordics.
Emma has worked in investment promotion for over 10 years, attracting foreign direct investment into sectors including resources and energy, infrastructure, healthcare, the circular economy, fintech, space, technology & advanced manufacturing, and tourism infrastructure.
Emma was formerly Austrade’s Senior Investment Specialist for Tourism with responsibility for engaging with hotel investors on Australia’s city and regional tourism markets. She has over 20 years' experience with the private sector and with state and commonwealth governments in project delivery, program management, public affairs, major project facilitation, indigenous affairs and regulatory reform. Prior to joining Austrade her roles included working on energy projects in the Department of Resources, Energy and Tourism; leading a national construction program for remote indigenous housing in the Department of Families and Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs; managing media and public affairs for the Department of Finance and undertaking asset sales for the Australian and Victorian Governments.
Emma started her career in the private sector working as a strategic and economic planner, before joining the public service. She has formal qualifications in town planning from the University of Melbourne and is on the Advisory Board of the Griffith University Institute for Tourism.
